NEW DELHI: After a day of hectic discussions and back-and-forth, the Congress on Sunday zeroed in on its Dalit face Charanjit Singh Channi as the brand new chief minister of Punjab.
Channi will exchange Captain Amarinder Singh, who had resigned because the chief minister on Saturday after months of turmoil inside the state unit.
Who’s Channi?
* Channi, 48, is an MLA from the Chamkaur Sahib Meeting constituency.
* He’s a member of the Dalit neighborhood, which includes nearly 1/third of Punjab’s inhabitants.
* The three-time MLA was the minister of technical instructional & industrial coaching within the Punjab authorities.
* Channi was among the many state leaders who had raised a banner of revolt towards Amarinder Singh.
