BENGALURU: An earthquake of 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Vijayapura district on Saturday morning, Karnataka State Pure Catastrophe Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) mentioned.
The earthquake occurred at 06:22:14 AM, epicentred at “2.3 kms NW of Kannur GP, Vijayapura Taluk, Vijayapura district (Bordering Vijayapura and Maharashtra area)”, it mentioned in an announcement.
KSNDMC Director Manoj Rajan mentioned, as per the Seismic Depth map of the mentioned earthquake from the epicentre, the depth noticed is reasonable and the tremor is perhaps felt as much as a radial distance of 30-40 kms from the epicentre.
“This kind of earthquake wouldn’t create any hurt to the area people as it’s reasonable, although there is perhaps native vibrations felt. The epicenter falls in Seismic Zone III and the area is void of any structural discontinuities as per the tectonic map,” he mentioned, including that the group needn’t panic because the depth noticed is reasonable.
