The Locations of Worship Act was enacted in 1991 to ban conversion of anywhere of worship and to supply for the upkeep of the non secular character of anywhere of worship because it existed on August 15, 1947. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi- Babri Mosque was an exception to the Act.

Recently, a number of BJP leaders have been demanding a relook on the 1991 Act.
