Jio Not to Pursue Tower Installation Project Inside Gir, Girnar Sanctuaries: Govt

Reliance Jio Infocomm has conveyed its resolution to not pursue its undertaking to intsall telecom towers inside Gir and Girnar wildlife sanctuaries, Parliament was knowledgeable on Wednesday. As knowledgeable by the Gujarat authorities, Reliance Jio Infocomm had submitted proposals for development of 41 cellular towers within the Gir and Girnar wildlife sanctuaries.

Responding to a query within the Lok Sabha on whether or not any resolution has been taken relating to the approval, Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan in a written reply stated: “As knowledgeable by the Authorities of Gujarat, the Reliance Jio Infocomm has conveyed its resolution to not pursue the undertaking for set up of telecommunication towers contained in the Gir and Girnar wildlife sanctuaries”.

The Ministry of Atmosphere, Forest and Local weather Change has not issued any advisory in 2017 relating to establishing of cellular towers in areas populated by wildlife. There’s, nevertheless, an advisory dated August 9, 2012, issued by the Ministry relating to use of cellular towers in a technique to minimise their influence on wildlife together with birds and bees’, Chauhan stated.
