Chief Minister M Ok Stalin on Thursday requested the Centre to safe the fast launch of Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by authorities of Seychelles and Indonesia.
Writing to Exterior Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Stalin mentioned 5 fishermen belonging to Tamil Nadu and three others from Kerala have been apprehended by the Indonesian air and sea police for allegedly coming into into their territorial waters.
They have been taken to Ditpolairud Pier, Aceh in Indonesia for authorized proceedings, he mentioned.
These fishermen had ventured for fishing on February 17 in an Andaman registered fishing vessel, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister mentioned.
As many as 33 different fishermen had set sail for fishing from Kochi on February 22 in 3 Tamil Nadu registered mechanised fishing boats. On March 7, they have been apprehended by the Seychelles authorities for allegedly coming into into Seychelles waters, Stalin mentioned.
Sources had mentioned on Wednesday that out of the 33, one fisherman belonged to Thiruvananthapuram.
Stalin mentioned, “I request your private intervention on this matter and request you to take this up with the Indonesian and Seychelles authorities in order to safe the fast launch of the fishermen and their fishing boats.”
