France’s highest court upholds ban on barristers wearing hijab in Lille law courts

PARIS: France’s highest courtroom on Wednesday upheld a ban on barristers carrying the hijab and different spiritual symbols in Lille regulation courts, a courtroom official mentioned, a judgment which may set a precedent for the remainder of the nation.
The case was introduced by Sarah Asmeta, a 30 yr outdated hijab-wearing French-Syrian lawyer, who had challenged a rule set by the Bar Council of Lille, northern France, banning spiritual and political markers in courtrooms on the grounds that it was discriminatory.
