Autokast Restricted, a State public sector enterprise and one of many largest ferrous foundry manufacturing items in south India, has bagged an order from Cochin Shipyard Restricted (CSL) to produce forged iron bricks for stable ballast (used to keep up stability) to INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous plane service.
The order for 3,750 forged iron bricks is price greater than ₹1 crore. “We handed over six samples of forged iron bricks to the CSL. The Indian Navy examined the samples and gave clearance. We hope at hand over the remainder of the forged iron bricks, every weighing 30 kg, by the top of this month,” stated an official of Autokast.
In March 2021, Autokast provided 5 deck-mounted closed chocks, manufactured as per ISO 13729, for INS Vikrant.
One other order
Officers stated Autokast had obtained a separate order from the CSL for 16 bulwark-mounted chocks. Autokast, which was accorded a Class ‘A’ Foundry standing by the Lucknow-based Analysis Design and Requirements Organisation (RDSO) of the Union Ministry of Railways in 2019, lately handed over 5 Casnub bogies for items trains constructed at its manufacturing unit at Cherthala in Alappuzha to Northern Railway.
Autokast, which was as soon as listed for privatisation, is on the trail of revival. Its change of fortune could be attributed to the earlier Left Democratic Entrance authorities’s efforts, which injected cash and helped it to modernise the unit.
